A Day’s Training in pics

I have been suffering from a flu and as a result the trainers are not allowing me to train. It sucks not been able to train. Just sitting on the side watching everyone else train. They all seem to get that much better with each day that I’m not training. I have still been going to the gym so i can watch and steal some techniques. They wouldn’t let me train but they did let me be the time keeper. Anyway, here’s a day’s muay thai training at PTT in pictures: Jump rope and Tire jumps Warm Up Hand wrapping … Continue reading A Day’s Training in pics

Training In Thailand: Fight Night

I have been acting as an unofficial Mandarin translator since arriving at Top Team. On August 28th my friends Meng Yu and A Xiang fought at Bangla stadium in Patong. It was the 2nd fight for both of them having won their last fights by knockout. After a fantastic dinner cooked by the amazing Noi at Sabai restaurant, we boarded the bus and set off to Patong. We arrived at Bangla boxing stadium after about a 40 minute drive. Meng Yu had been suffering from a terrible stomach pain since this morning so was clutching his stomach throughout the entire … Continue reading Training In Thailand: Fight Night

Training In Thailand: So Much Improvement

It is incredible how much improvement in have made in striking after two months of training here. The most drastic change can be seen in my boxing. My boxing was an area that was identified as weak by Captain Mohammed when I was training at Samurai Kickboxing club in Al Khobar. We worked on it for about 2 weeks before I came to Thailand.  I have been working my hands a lot with Oleydong whom I have written about previously since arriving here.  We have been working on footwork and movement, defensive head movement. He has been drilling into using … Continue reading Training In Thailand: So Much Improvement

Training in Thailand: Week 2 Summary

It’s long over due, my apologies.  Here’s a summary of my second week in Phuket. Training Train was great these week. I trained twice a day every day and sparred almost every day. I felt a lot more comfortable, confident and had more fun. I am still working on checking body kicks and need to apply my hips more in kicks. Below are videos of one of the sparring sessions. We spar very lightly for the most part but we do occasionally get MMA guys come to muaythai practice have to be told to dial it down a few notches. … Continue reading Training in Thailand: Week 2 Summary

Training in Thailand: Day 7

Rest and Relaxation After a hard 6 days of training we finally have a day off. It was a good chance to just rest and do absolutely nothing. To give my body an opportunity to recover. It was a beautiful soon day so Logan and I decided to go chill out at the beach. The beauty of Phuket is that you are never too far from white sandy beaches. After a good breakfast at Tony’s restaurant, we filled up the motorbike and set off for Kata beach. It was about a 15 minute drive to Kata beach along a bendy … Continue reading Training in Thailand: Day 7

Training For Thailand: Hands Up Abdullah

Half way through warm up last night, the gyn door opened and a young lad walked through followed by a man dressed in professional Saudi attire. The lad was wearing match green venom rashguard and shorts and carrying a huge sports bag. This caught my attention because with the exception of myself, nobody at Samurai trains in a rashguard. I have taken to wearing a t-shirt over my  rashguard in an effort to fit in. The lad put his big bag down and joined us. Coach went to talk to the professionally dressed gentleman as we stretched. Coach Mohammed demonstrated … Continue reading Training For Thailand: Hands Up Abdullah

Why Phuket Top Team

Since revealing my plans to go and train in Thailand, I have been asked the same question by pretty much all my friends “why phuket top team?”. To avoid answering the same question over and over again, here’s why I decided on Top Team: 1. Connection Back in 2012, I was looking around for jiujitsu videos on YouTube when I came across a guy named Prof. Rodrigo a then instructor at Top team showing how to do the twister and calf crank. I loved the way he broke down the technique. So started looking for more technique videos from the … Continue reading Why Phuket Top Team
